Pretty Polly Nylons – 10D Gloss Lace Top Hold Ups

Day 18 of my holdups of the day series brings a truly classic piece from Pretty Polly Nylons – 10D Gloss Lace Top Hold Ups, and as always this pair was chosen straight from my Amazon Wishlist.

Pretty Polly is a storied British hosiery brand with over a century of history, originating in Nottinghamshire and known for pioneering innovations in legwear, including bringing hold-ups to the market back in 1967, eliminating the need for suspenders and shaping how we think about self-supporting stockings today.

These hold-ups feature a sheer 10 denier gloss finish that gives your legs a subtle, silky shine, paired with a delicate lace top that’s both decorative and functional. The classic design is finished with an interior silicone band to help them stay in place and reinforced toes for added durability – qualities that make them versatile for daytime or evening wear.

The Packaging

Getting Them On: I made sure that I had my hosiery gloves on this morning, to avoid any snags or damage whilst getting them on.
I did have a fair amount of stretch in them, so I could sit them higher.

These were fine going over my anklets too!

On The Legs: so this is barely black, but it’s more of a browny-green shade than a black. I wasn’t too sure if I liked it or not to be honest, but once I paired them with my dress and heels, they turned a little more brown in shade and that I could work with.
These do have a glossy shine to them, as they have a coating you can feel on the legs, which does help with less movement in my heels, so they’re not slipping around everywhere.

The quality of these are not great at all; it’s like they are cheaply made. I had tons of snags on them, which were at the top of the holdup. I saw them as I was getting them on and looked down in disappointment.

The fit of these are true to size, and I had plenty of stretch in them, so I could sit them wherever I wanted on the legs.
If you are in-between sizes, I would advise going a size up just you have a little extra material to play with.

The feel of these are soft and really lovely. I mentioned before they have a coating on them to give a glossy shine, which hits every so often when the sun is on them.
These also don’t irritate the skin either, which is something I was worried about, but my mind was put at ease when I was moving about in them all day.

The Toes & Ankle: these come with reinforced toes, as you can see below. I had plenty of wiggle room for my toes to breathe, and no pressure was added during my wear either.

Around the feet and ankles, I had a smooth finish overall with no wrinkling.

The Bands: it went from bad to worse – as I saw that it has a hole in them where it’s supposed to be reinforced. I was absolutely LIVID at this! I get that these are supposed to be cheap and cheerful, but not to this extent. I have no idea how it even happened, but I had to deal with it during my wear.

Apart from that, the band is quite nice. It’s simple, elegant and does the job. I’m still not sold on this colour, and it’s really emphasised here.

I had plenty of stretch in these bands, so I had no issues with any thigh squeezes.

My Thoughts?

As much as I love the glossy shine, this wasn’t worth my time to be honest. I was super disappointed in the quality of this pair.
