Hello American Apparel! I haven’t tried out this brand before, but I have been meaning to for a while now. I do like their clothing range, but I never knew they did hosiery too!
I got this pair (amongst a few others) gifted to review, so I will be starting off with these holdups and see how I get along 🙂
Denier: Around 15
Materials: 69& Polyamide, 31% Elastane
Price & Website: Unknown
I wanted to create a slightly vintage look today, so I wore my polka dot pencil dress with my platform patent peep toe slingback shoes.
Dress: Jane Norman
Tights: American Apparel
The Packaging: I’m not too sure if they were bought from a store or online, but this is how they came. The packaging shows the model wearing them on the front along with the model name, brand and size. Flipping over, you can see the composition and manufacturing details.
When you get in, you will find card inserted into 1 leg, and you get to see how small they are! I was giggling when I saw they were like the length of my forearm, but I know these will have some serious stretch to them so I am intrigued to get them on!
On The Legs: let me start off with the the quality as I have a fair bit to say. I found the quality to be just ok; I felt it was pretty cheap and it wasn’t great as I found those weird markings around the legs once I had got them on. I tried to rub them away, pinch and pull, roll down and back up – nothing was getting rid of it. I also found that it wasn’t even on the legs so matter where I sat the welts. I had an ombre finish working from the feet where it was the darkest to the thighs where it was lighter. I also saw behind the knees it was pretty dark and that didn’t go away either.
To also top it off, these snag VERY easily; as soon as I got them on, I found I had already managed to snag them behind the leg somehow. I am not impressed with these I must say.
The fit of them are true to size, however I feel a S/M would have worked better for me. I thought XS/S was ok, but the welts sat lower down the leg than I would have liked it to and there was no way I could have pulled them up to sit higher.
The feel of them are not bad; they are soft and pretty smooth on the legs; but I wasn’t feeling this matte finish. A lot of you know that I love a matte finish, but these are quite cheap and you can tell if you compare it to other brands. These don’t irritate the legs in any way or feel grainy, but I wasn’t overly impressed with them.
The Toes & Ankle: if you scroll down you will find that the reinforced toes they have, are uneven on each leg. The right side was so thin it just about covered the nails, whereas the left side covered my toes completely. I have no idea how they could be so different, yet somehow they are.
And to top it off, I managed to make a hole on the right hand side – don’t ask me how as my nails were smooth and no sharp or long.
I had plenty of wiggle room for my toes and no pressure was added onto the toes or feet during the day.
Around the feet and ankles, I had a smooth fitted finish with no wrinkles.
The Bands: is the one thing that I actually did like about them. They sat mid-thigh on me, and had this lovey laser-cut design to them. They are supported by a reinforced band underneath. I did find that you cannot pull these too much as you see the yarns being tugged just under the bands.
These come with a double silicone strip and they sit well on the thighs too; I felt comfortable wearing them.
Now after all this… I took them off after writing my review and I was left with marks on both thighs from the sewn part of the bands. I had a whole ring going round both thighs and it did not go for at least 20 minutes.
I was not impressed!
Although they may look great, I wouldn’t really recommend this pair unless you can get a larger size. I struggled in this pair, leading to a not-so-great review of them. If I went one size up, I don’t think they would be too bad! The quality of these however are horrendous!
