Hello Pretty Polly – it’s been a while and this time I am doing a few blogs for them on their current collection.
If you haven’t heard of Pretty Polly or known as PP, then let me give you a little insight:

The Packaging: it comes in a smallish box (not too thick) where it shows the model wearing the tights with boots along with the brand name and make.
On the back, it delves into a little more detail (along with the sizing guide, materials and hosiery care):
Perfect for wearing with boots, these soft, warm tights look as though you’re wearing over the knee socks over your opaque tights! Great for that layered look.
Out Of The Packaging: you will find them wrapped around cardboard ready to wear. These aren’t moulded to your legs as they’re too thick in denier to do so. There is no differentiation between front or back, so you can get these right on!
Getting Them On: I tried these out 2 ways; my usual scrunch and roll and pull up. The scrunch and roll was a little difficult half way down the leg as it tightens where the sock bit is, so when you start off at the feet, you will find it slightly tight and then loosen when you unroll up the legs.
Pulling up I found a little more easier as one leg I don’t have anklets on at the moment, so it was a straight pull up. If you don’t have anklets, you might find it easier to do it that way rather than scrunching. If you do have anklets, then be careful if you’re gonna pull up as you don’t want them catching on.
Near the top thigh to the waist there’s a lot of material to play with here and it’s really stretchy too.
On The Legs: so before I begin I had flash on as the room was a little dark during the day, but there are some images that don’t have flash on so you can see what it would look like in normal daylight.
Okay so let me delve into the good parts first:
- I like they way they fit and hug the legs; these are a small to medium which means I have plenty of room in them so they don’t feel too tight.
- They actually do look like I have over-knee socks on on top of opaque tights which looks great. I don’t own that many boots that would sit under these socks, but if I did, it would create such a great look.
- The denier is really thick and I won’t say fully opaque, so perfect for colder months (and if you have stubbly legs too!)
- They aren’t a block opaque look either; it looks like they’re a woolly texture which I can’t pin if that’s a good or bad thing!
Now onto the not-so-great:
- The quality of them aren’t great at all. I found the top half of the thighs to be very streaky and has some weird lines on the inner and outer thigh at the sides. Not too sure why they are there, but not really feeling it.
- The sock part is really bad; I will go into more detail about that in the next section.
- These pick up fluff all day long; I had to keep dusting myself off all day and it’s not the type to just woosh away with your hand. You got to pick at this to get it off.
The ‘Secret Sock’: okay so the sock part (and we’re now talking about the bottom of the legs) is a part where I have a love/hate relationship going on.
Now let me show you how the sock part works; they have added a ribbed band which overlaps on the tights to make it look like a combo. I think that is such a nifty idea and it saves you the hassle of actually layering (if you’re a fan like I am!)
Also a pointer: these do leave marks on your legs after you wear them for long periods!
I love what they are trying to create; this dual combo which is great and would work for those who love wearing longer boots.
On the other hand, the quality in this section is really bad. With the flash off, you can’t really tell, but with it on, you can see this weird patchy flaky bits all over the leg at the bottom. It’s not a problem if you’re covering them with boots, but boots off, these look really horrible.
The Toes & Ankles: I don’t have an issue with this part at all. The toes have plenty of wiggle room in them and there is no extra material on the corners of the toes either. These aren’t reinforced so to speak, but as they are a thick denier they would be ok with long toenails. Just be careful with sharp nails though!
Around the ankles there is no crinkling or any signs of them falling down, so you get a smooth look around this part.
The Waistband & Gusset: is so comfortable I gotta say. It sits just above the belly button (which some can find too high up) but I found that this doesn’t roll down on itself during the day, which is great news!
They stay up really well and have plenty of stretch in them too, so you won’t feel they would be too tight around your waist.
The gusset is a normal cotton one, so feel free to go commando and not have to worry!
I have to say this is a mixed review from me to be honest and I’m not too sure how I feel about it.
I love the concept of them trying to do a 2-in-1, but the quality is so poor in these which makes me think is it really worth it?
I didn’t manage to get any snags in them which is a good thing, especially being on the move constantly, but it’s really bugging me about the sock part and those weird lines on the thighs.
These are a pair that I maybe would wear again but I would certainly cover as much as I can so it hides all the blah points I made before.
